Dave Sampson took his clothes down to the local laundromat. The two women behind the counter didn't speak a word of English and didn't take any money offered. Dave decided his clothes would either come back clean in a day, or be offered for a sacrifical burning.

(In Thailand John has asked us to wash our underwear and socks ourselves - Buddhist belief suggests that contact with another's underwear causes you to lose your Buddhist charge/luck. Now you know just where to hide valuable jewellery when packing for Thailand!)
